We came together to become Coast Life Families almost 2 years ago now, through a shared passion for family centred care (and by a massive stroke of luck!).
As practitioners, and as mothers, we are well aware of the rollercoaster that accompanies raising children from the early days of feeding, to sleep deprivation, and the constant worry that you are doing a good job.
We hate the thought of families struggling! Our perpetual aim is to provide consistent and reassuring advice to make life a little easier for parents regardless of their circumstances.
Our varied backgrounds of life and work experiences completely compliment each other and ensure we provide a service to families that we are proud of.

Child Health Nurse and Lactation ConsultanT
Jessica has been working as a Child Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant on the Sunshine Coast since 2012. Prior to settling on the coast Jessica has worked in paediatric hospitals in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and with first time mums of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander babies in both Melbourne and Cairns.
Jessica is passionate about supporting mothers and families to be the best they can be for their babies and children. Jessica believes that when a mother is heard and supported her child will thrive.
With a Masters of Child and Family Health Jessica provides family-centred support and advice for questions around feeding, settling, daily routines, development and maternal wellbeing. Jessica takes a partnership approach to supporting families and knows that the mother, and family, are the experts in their own baby or child. “Every mother, baby, child and family is different, every family has its own unique strengths. It is my role to work with individual families to create a healthy environment for babies and children to grow and thrive.”
Jessica was fortunate enough to have both of her baby boys with Coast Life Midwifery so she knows the importance of continuity of care and being supported by someone who knows you and your family. Jessica is thrilled to be able to provide ongoing support for mums and families understanding the benefit of having “your own Child Health Nurse”.
“Being a mother, and having children, brings deep joy as well as complex challenges. These are best addressed by working with someone who can give you the space and support to find strategies that align with your own personal values and beliefs. There is no one parenting style that works for every mother and child.”
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Leaving school, Jane studied a Bachelor of Nursing at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane and commenced her career as a paediatric nurse. Following an interest in the care of babies, Jane moved to Melbourne to undertake her midwifery training in the form of a Post Graduate Diploma at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Jane quickly realised which side of midwifery she preferred and happily fell into neonates over 22 years ago. At this point, Jane achieved a further Post Graduate Diploma in Neonatal Intensive Care through La Trobe University, Melbourne. As supportive study, Jane also completed a Masters of Science in Genetic Counselling at Griffith University in Brisbane.
Neonatal nursing has taken Jane to tertiary centres across Australia and then led her to the United Kingdom, where she completed her Masters as an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at London South Bank University. Thirteen years on, Jane still has the pleasure of working in such a privileged role caring for babies and their families.
After moving back to Australia and spending time working in Melbourne, Jane has now been living on the Sunshine Coast with her partner and their two girls for 6 years. Jane shares her work time between the local Neonatal Unit at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and is thrilled to also be a part of our unique Baby and Child Health Service at Coast Life Families working in conjunction with Jessica Kumar, Child Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant.
Jane’s passion is centred around providing quality care with babies and their families as the focus. She enjoys the challenges that arise from the ever changing advances in Neonatology and strives to practice using current evidence as her basis. Jane is excited by continual quality improvement and repeated evaluation of service provision. Jane finds the balance between working at the hospital and in the community at Coast Life Families refreshing and rewarding.
